Driving While Impaired (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America satellite broadcast, 7/21/04)

This Webcast data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which estimates that approximately 1.5 million drivers were arrested in 2002 for driving while impaired from either alcohol or narcotics. NHTSA estimates that alcohol was involved in 40 percent of fatal crashes and in 6 percent of all crashes. In 2002, 84 percent of the drivers involved in fatal crashes were intoxicated. The authors conclude this issue must be a priority among communities if they are hoping to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and drugs.
